COERR Mae Hong Son organized Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) Training for camp-based refugee staff (CBRS) of agriculture and social services units in the temporary shelters.
PSEA training was held in Ban Mae Surin Temporary Shelter on July 22, 2022 for 7 camp-based refugee staff (CBRS) of 4 females and 3 males and in Ban Mai Nai Soi on July 27, 2022 for 26 CBRS members, of 20 females and 6 males.
The objectives of the training were to convince all CBRS to pay attention to significance of PSEA, beginning with learning and understanding the concept of prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse as measures taken to protect vulnerable people.
Then there was brainstorming in the group activity about the factors & impact of PSEA on all stakeholders. Many participants believed that this came from the refugees’ vulnerability (poverty, economics, etc.), perpetrator’s negligence of human rights as well as the barriers to reporting to the SEA focal persons of the organization.
There were discussions about case studies for better understanding and prevention so that the misconduct had not been repeated in the organization.
Training process focused on participatory training methodology. The participants who had been trained in PSEA shared their ideas. Thus, they were aware of 6 cores of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) principles. It was ensured that in case any misconduct occurred, there would be no delay to report the incident to the responsible officer for instant punishment.
